The Blue Vase and the Lessons of Impermanence

I no longer have my most favorite painting. It was a simple piece—a blue vase against a blue background. But it held something more for me, something unspoken yet deeply felt.

I donated it to a fundraising campaign following Typhoon Yolanda, a storm that devastated the Central Philippines and left behind loss, grief, and a need for rebuilding. Letting go of the painting felt right at the time. It was a small offering in the face of something so immense. But over the years, I’ve found myself thinking about it often—not with regret, but with an awareness of impermanence.

Everything shifts. Everything changes. Even the things we love the most will, at some point, no longer be ours.

This website is, in a way, another exercise in embracing impermanence. It’s a space where I can pause and examine my art before it moves on, where I can document the creative process, and where I can invite connection before time inevitably carries us forward. It’s also a place where I can honor my father’s creativity. He was a quiet creator, never one to draw attention to himself, yet he left behind a legacy of thoughtfulness, imagination, and dedication. Through this space, I hope to not only explore my own artistic journey but also share his writings and the stories he preserved.

I don’t know exactly where this will go—just as I didn’t know where that blue vase would end up. But for now, this is the next step. And for now, that’s enough.
